Biography

Joseph Adam Jonas was born to Denise and Paul Kevin Jonas, Sr. on August 15, 1989 in Casa Grande, Arizona. Joe is the second of four children in the Jonas household, Paul Kevin Jonas II (also known as Kevin) is two years older than Joe while Nicholas (Nick) is three years younger and little Franklin (Frankie) is eleven years younger. After moving around a lot, the Jonas family settled in Wykoff, New Jersey to raise their family.

Joe wanted to be a comedian and never had the desire to be a singer, even though music was a big part of his and the Jonas family life. He dreamed of becoming a comedian and wanted to audition for sketch comedy shows. As kids, Joe always had a camera and recorded plays and sketches with his brothers.

After finding out he wanted to sing, he went to Nick’s agent to go out to New York City for auditions. In 2002, Joe made his Broadway debut in the musical Oliver! as the character Dodger. He wow’d the audiences with his stage presence.

After Nick’s Christian solo project went under, he got signed by Columbia Records in 2004. Joe, Kevin and Nick wrote a song for his solo record and an executive decided to sign the three of them as a band instead. The executive told them to learn to play musical instruments and to learn songs on a CD he gave to them that consisted of ’70s and ’80s hard rock and punk rock songs. Joe ended up learning to play percussion, the piano and later the guitar from small lessons from his older brother Kevin and the band’s music director John Taylor. The boys were tested and opened up for the likes of Kelly Clarkson and the Backstreet Boys.

While on tour, the boys began writing and recording songs for their debut album. However, Columbia Records kept putting off the release of their record. During the time the boys were recording, Joe took notice how thin Nick had gotten and encouraged him to go to the hospital. That night, Nick was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. After Nick was diagnosed, Joe stepped up to be the “front man” of the group to give Nick a bit of rest until he got used to living with diabetes.

Joe, along with his brothers have vowed to each other that they will stay pure until marriage and to show the symbolism, they wear purity rings on their left hand ring finger.

According to his brothers, Joe is the shy one of the group, which many fans don’t believe because watching their YouTube videos and live performances, Joe is always making people laugh and the life of the party. Joe is said to be very shy and quiet around girls he likes, but he also likes girls who he can relate to; who are funny and outgoing so he doesn’t have to worry about having to impress her.

On the romance front, Joe has had his fine number of girlfriends. Back in 2005, he dated his childhood friend Mandy for the summer, but they both decided they were better off as friends. Joe was also rumored to be linked with AJ Michalka back in 2006. 2008 became the year of girlfriends for Joe, however. At the beginning of the year, Joe was rumored to be linked to friend and JONAS co-star Chelsea Staub, followed by country singer Taylor Swift briefly before long girlfriend, Camilla Belle. Joe is currently single with previous rumors of secretly dating Brenda Song and Camp Rock co-star and best friend Demi Lovato.
